Tasmanian women film/video project

Event Name Tasmanian women film/video project
Start Date 16th Oct 2017 9:00am
End Date 19th Jan 2018 5:00pm
Duration 95 days and 8 hours

Tasmanian Women: Who were they? Who are they? Who will they be?’

This  project offers a challenge to persons of any gender, any age, any occupation or any cultural background to make a short film or video that explores a person’s interpretation of that title.

This challenge requires the film or video to include a poem from a past Tasmanian newspaper and a new poem sourced through the Tasmanian branch of the Society of Women Writers. Twenty old and twenty new poems are provided on the project website. How ‘Tasmanian Women’ and how the poems are included in the film or video is up to the creators.

The film or video can range from the usual film format to a comic strip or a montage of drawings, paintings, photographs, cartoons, film clips, etc. As with the interpretation of ‘Tasmanian Women: Who were they? Who are they? Who will they be?’, the actual format and duration (maximum 20 minutes) is up to the person accepting the challenge.

Anyone with a mobile phone, tablet and similar devices is capable of taking film or videos footage and many home computers have simple film editing software.

It is planned to screen a selection of films or videos in Launceston and Hobart on International Women’s Day 2018, together with a panel to discuss issues raised in the films or videos. The films and videos for screening will be selected by a small group of women.

The project offers people from different cultural backgrounds with an opportunity to present their ideas, views and opinions.

The project deadline is 19 January 2018.
