Seeking aspiring divas

Hobart Harmony is running a six-week introductory program which will allow women who love to sing to further explore their voice, movement and performance.

The A Cappella August program will allow aspiring divas to learn three songs in four-part harmony. The songs will be a mix of traditional barbershop and contemporary a cappella arrangements, including Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”. After completing the six week program, the chorus hopes some participants will consider auditioning to become permanent members.

The theme of this year’s program is “How low can you go?”, as the chorus is particularly looking for “Deep Voiced Divas” who sing in the low alto range, but; as always,  ladies of any voice type are most welcome to come along.

Hobart Harmony is a women’s chorus dedicated to the art of a cappella performance and is Tasmania’s only Sweet Adelines chorus. Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide organisation of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance.

Hobart Harmony performs at a variety of shows, events and competitions locally and nationally. They performed A Cappella and Barbershop Concert at the Festival of Voices, Hobart; and recently travelled to Perth to compete in this year’s national Sweet Adelines Convention. From May 2018 the national convention will be held in Hobart for three years, so now is a great time to consider joining the chorus.

The six-week A Cappella August program will start on 7 August and be held on Monday nights from 7pm – 9.30pm.

Rehearsals are held at Guilford Young College Performing Arts Centre in Patrick Street.

The program will conclude with a family and friends concert where participants will have a chance to showcase their new skills.
