The Migrant Resource Centre (MRC Tas) is conducting a project funded by the Department of Social Services investigating the social cohesion of women and families arriving in Tasmania on a 204 ‘Women at Risk’ Visa.
In the last decade, there has been an increase in the numbers of 204 visa entrants, with Tasmania receiving a high proportion relative to its total humanitarian intake.
The project adds to national research on Women at Risk, with a unique focus on intergenerational outcomes and the impact on families.
So far, the project has interviewed key stakeholders working with these families, and conducted a survey of over 400 Tasmanians living in key local government areas to investigate the social cohesion of our communities.
MRC Tas is about to embark on the next stage of the project, which involves interviews with former refugees who arrived on 204 visas, as well as people entering on other Humanitarian visas.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in participating, or you or your community would like more information about the project, please contact Research Officer, Helen Merrick.
Please also contact MRC Tas if your organisation or group would like to attend updates or workshops on the project later in the year.
